Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Bwindi impenetrable national park
Morning: Your adventure begins with an early morning departure from your accommodation in either Kampala or Entebbe (9-11 hours), heading southwest toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the ultimate destination for gorilla trekking. The journey itself will be an experience, taking you through Uganda’s verdant countryside, filled with rolling hills, terraced farmlands, and bustling local villages.
Afternoon: have lunch enroute in mbarara town
Evening: Arrive at your lodge, check-in, and relax.
Day 2: Gorilla tracking in Bwindi and overnight at Lake Bunyonyi
Today is the day you’ve been eagerly waiting for, your gorilla trekking adventure! After a hearty breakfast, you’ll depart early in the morning to meet your trekking group and guide at the designated starting point. All trekkers are assigned a specific group of gorillas to visit, depending on which sector you’re in.The trek begins with a briefing by your guide, who will explain the guidelines for approaching the gorillas. After hiking for 2 to 8 hours you encounter the gorillas, your guide will allow you to spend one hour in their company. The sight of these majestic creatures, moving gracefully through the forest or resting, is both humbling and exhilarating. You’ll likely see members of the group interacting with each other, including playful young ones, protective silverbacks, and the matriarchs of the group. Watching them go about their daily lives in such a natural and unspoiled environment is an unforgettable experience.
After your hour with the gorillas, the hike back to the starting point begins, where you can enjoy a well-deserved lunch. Return to your lodge to relax and reflect on the experience, perhaps with a glass of local Ugandan wine or a refreshing cold drink.
In the evening, you may want to partake in a local cultural experience with the batwa and thereafter transfer to Lake Bunyonyi where you will have dinner and overnight stay.
Day3: Boat ride and transfer back to Kampala
Enjoy your last day with a boat ride around the lake, exploring islands like Akampene (Punishment Island) or visit local villages. Thereafter drive back to Kampala with a stopover at the equator monument and lunch in Mbarara. Drive back through to Kampala/Entebbe where your guide will drop you off at the airport for your onward flight.
