Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park with Ibyiwacu Cultural Village Visit

Welcome to Rwanda! Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your guide, who will escort you on a scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park, located about 2.5-3 hours from Kigali. Enjoy a comfortable ride through the beautiful Rwandan countryside, passing rolling hills, vibrant green landscapes, and rural villages. As you approach the park, you’ll catch your first glimpses of the magnificent Virunga Volcanoes in the distance. On the way to your lodge, you’ll stop at Ibyiwacu Cultural Village, an authentic Rwandan cultural site that offers a fascinating insight into the country’s traditions. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to interact with the local community, learn about traditional Rwandan customs, and participate in activities such as drumming, dancing, and storytelling. Continue your journey to your lodge near the park. Check-in, settle into your comfortable accommodation, and take some time to relax while enjoying the stunning views of the Virunga Mountains. Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure & Return to Kigali

Start your day early with a delicious breakfast at your lodge, fueling up for the thrilling adventure ahead. After breakfast, you’ll be driven to the park headquarters in Kinigi, where you’ll meet with your guide for a briefing on the gorilla trekking experience. This important session will cover safety guidelines, the dos and don’ts of gorilla viewing, and information about the park’s conservation efforts. You’ll be assigned to a small group based on your fitness level and the gorilla families currently being tracked. Each group will be led by an experienced guide and accompanied by porters if needed. Your trek into the misty, lush bamboo forests begins! The hike can last anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family you’ll be visiting. Along the way, you’ll traverse through dense vegetation, hear the sounds of wildlife, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Virunga Volcanoes. Once you reach the gorillas, you’ll have up to one hour to observe these magnificent creatures. Watch in awe as the gentle giants interact with each other, play, and feed. The experience of being in such close proximity to these endangered primates is truly unforgettable. After the trek, you’ll head back to your lodge for a well-deserved lunch. Share stories from the trek with your fellow travelers and enjoy a relaxing break in the stunning surroundings. Following lunch, you’ll begin your journey back to Kigali, where your guide will drive you through the scenic Rwandan countryside. The drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, offering a final chance to take in the stunning landscapes of Rwanda. Depending on your flight schedule, your guide will either take you directly to Kigali International Airport or to your hotel for a final night in the capital. If you have time, explore a bit of Kigali’s lively streets, markets, and cafes before your departure.
