Lake Manyara National Park is one of Tanzania’s most scenic and diverse safari destinations, known for its stunning landscapes, rich wildlife, and unique ecological variety within a relatively small area. Lake Manyara National Park supports a rich variety of wildlife despite its relatively small size, with animals such as elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, buffaloes, hippos, and several antelope species commonly seen across its diverse habitats. The park is especially famous for its unique tree-climbing lions, which are sometimes spotted resting on acacia branches, a rare behavior that sets Lake Manyara apart from other safari destinations. It is also a paradise for bird lovers, with over 400 recorded bird species, including large flocks of flamingos, pelicans, storks, and other waterbirds that gather around the lake, particularly during the wet season.
This is the best time for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around limited water sources and vegetation is thinner, making sightings easier.
The park becomes lush and green, offering excellent birdwatching opportunities and beautiful scenery. Flamingos are often seen in large numbers during this period.
Lake Manyara is easily accessible by road from Arusha in about 2–3 hours. The journey passes through scenic landscapes, villages, and farmlands.
Visitors can also fly into nearby airstrips in the northern safari circuit and continue by road into the park.
